With the season-ending California Hot Rod Reunion a mere five weeks away, twenty nostalgia nitro funny cars showed up for one more shot at Famoso’s concrete quarter mile to get dialed in for the Reunion. This race saw the return of the Pisano & Matsubara Vega now owned by Mike Mallory. The team was there to further the efforts of Mike’s brother Todd to secure his Nostalgia F/C license.  (Paul Schmitz photo)

(ABOVE) Richard Townsend from nearby Oakdale, Calif., arrived with a completely new Murf McKinney chassis on a ’69 Camaro to try and earn his license with help from veteran tuner Ray Zeller. Townsend named his ride the “Nitroholic”. Fellow Oakdale resident and friend Josh Crawford hopes to bring back his Harry Schmidt “Blue Max” Mustang for the Reunion, but if not that race then certainly for the 2013 March Meet. (LEFT) The much improved GTO of Dennis LaCharite recorded the second quickest time of the all-run session. New Crew Chief Cory Lee tuned LaCharite to a 5.968 ET at 234.98 mph. LaCharite and Lee have entered and say they will make the tow from SoCal to the upcoming DRO AA/FC Challenge event Sept. 21-22 at Tulsa Raceway Park.  (Gary Edwards photo)
