What a Fiesta!

Fiesta Extreme Meltdown at Houston Motorsports Park

Saturday, Oct. 5, marked the long awaited return of the Fiesta Extreme Meltdown series at the eighth-mile Houston Motorsports Park featuring the Texas Automatic Pro Mods. The last Fiesta Extreme Meltdown event was rained out, and the weather this day was typical Houston:  Hot and humid with an approaching late evening cold front.

Eliminations under the lights promised to be a show on track and the action also included X275, Ultra Street and 5.80 index classes.

Pro Mod Qualifying

Coming into this event Chris Domino held the points lead over E.J. Hickl. Hickl has three wins on the season and is the most recent winner back on June 29 at Redline Raceway in Caddo Mills, Texas. The largest field of year, 15 entries, would get two shots in qualifying to fill an eight-car elimination ladder.

The first session got off to a great start as points leader Domino led off with a fine 4.26 at 178.08 mph. The Pontiac is sporting a new power plant and this was a great baseline run. Championship chaser Hickl nabbed low ET of the first session when the black ‘41 Willys ripped off a smooth 4.18/166.36.
