If you missed the 22nd Annual California Hot Rod Reunion, you simply missed out on one of the greatest nostalgia races to date.

There were Heritage Championships that went down to the final rounds of competition, and in some classes even down to the final round. If non-racing Cacklefest cars are your cup of tea, eighty of them were on the grounds at Famoso. That amount of cars would fill many small drag strip pit areas.

Adam Sorokin got the AA/FD final win over Denver Schutz.

TOP FUEL

Fourteen AA/FD dragsters made qualifying attempts on both Friday and
Saturday. On the pole was Denver Schutz (left) in the “Raisin Express” from Fresno. Schutz recorded a blistering 5.67-second, 249.03-mph run to lead the field. Second was Rick McGee with a 5.73 at 219.61 run, third was Rick White in the Neal and White fueler at 5.76/230. Jim Boyd rounded out the Top Fuel field in the number 13 spot.

One of the championship contenders, Brendan Murry, was shut off on the line in the first qualifying session and in the second his car ran a best ever 5.88-second run which was disallowed when the cars oil tank blew up in the shutdown area and the run dis-allowed which meant he didn’t make the show which ended his championship hopes.
