EXTREME DRAG RADIAL

The Extreme Drag Radial class had 11 entries and, unlike some of the other eliminators, there was no clearly dominant racer or car here. The evil handling Drag Radial cars put on a great show racing on the eighth-mile distance.

Runner-up Roger Holder averaged over 160 mph in eliminations with a best speed of 164.99. Mustang racer Norman Chang set the low ET for the class on at 4.651/163+ lap in the second round but unfortunately for him he also lit the red light and wasted the effort.

Rich Hoyle from Palmdale CA. was neither the quickest nor fastest in the class but did qualify on the pole with a 4.717 lap and went on to a victory.

The radial racers had their cars on the ragged edge as shown by the fact that five cars in the first round broke.

The final round was between the top two qualifiers, Roger Holder and Rich Hoyle. Hoyle was the only racer able to stay in the 4-second ET range for the first three round and Holder averaged over 160 mph in the first three rounds of racing.

In the championship round Holder put a holeshot on Hoyle with an RT of .033 to Holden’s .084, but Holder couldn’t keep the lead. Despite a 160+ trap speed he only ran a 6.01, indicating traction issues, and Hoyle motored to a winning 4.982 at just 134.52 mph.

OUTLAW 10.5

Doug Sikora of Apple Valley, Calif., drove his 2000 ‘Stang to the Outlaw 10.5 title defeating the immaculate ’48 Chevy pickup truck driven by Dan Withers of Phoenix. Sikora recorded a 4.187/176.95 eighth-mile lap for the win over a shutting off Withers.
