Boychuk, who had been disqualified after a post-race fuel pump infraction in 2012, was looking for vindication for his team at the same race a year later. The ’77 Firebird’s owner/driver didn’t have an easy time getting to the finals either.

In the first round newcomer Robert Overholser left the starting line first with a .053 advantage, but Boychuk came by him on the top end with a 5.753 to Overholser’s 5.858.
