FIA Pro Modified

Although the inaugural FIA Pro Modified champion back in 2006, Urban Johansson has run a restricted schedule over the past couple of seasons and plans to do the same this year. Despite this, the VBS Corvette is one of the heavy hitters on the European tour, and a qualifying best of 5.941 put him ahead of the ET record from the Main Event at Santa Pod, but behind the record holder Micke Gullqvist on the ladder. Once the first round of eliminations was out of the way (a 6.115 to 6.704 win over Johan Westberg) the pace got seriously quick with Ubbe taking the record into the five eighties with a 5.883/241 dispatching Freddy Fagerstrom and a 5.945 n the semifinals to take a spot in the final alongside Gullqvist. Between the pair they delivered arguably the best Pro Mod trophy showdown in Euro, Ubbe leaving first with a 0.03s RT although Gullan wasn’t that far behind with a 0.08s leave but the holeshot would prove to be enough with a 5.991/239 just keeping Gotland’s finest ahead of the reigning champion’s 5.956/246.

With a championship to defend, a win and runner-up, coupled with two low qualifiers, in the opening pair of events is a pretty good start and until Johansson started flying, Gullqvist was the form horse here too with seven out of eight runs in the five second bracket. The best of these (a 5.899) got him into the five eighty bracket and a new Euro record two pairs before Johansson took the honours away.
