Victory Nostalgia Super Stocks at Cedar Falls, Iowa

After two rain-outs, the Victory NSS racers and crew rolled into Cedar Falls Raceway’s Night of Fire, July 19-20, and were greeted with beautiful sunshine. Twenty-seven members of the Victory NSS Association made the trip to Iowa for the fourth race of the six-race series.

The weekend started with drama for two of the competitors who happen to be brothers. Points leader Tim Frees discovered that he had hurt his motor at the Earlville race the month before. With a lot of help from his brother, Jeff, the engine was rebuilt and some power adding parts were included. The new motor was not installed until two days before Cedar Falls, leaving Tim no time to test it.

That’s when Jeff and good friends Russ Berens and Wally Krueger came to the rescue, loading Tim’s car up and taking it to Union Grove, Wisconsin’s Test and Tune on Thursday night. After a few runs, the crew had the car dialed in, running a half-second faster than before. Tim was very appreciative of the help from his friends and family.

The drama wasn’t over for the Frees family, though. After unloading his 1965 Hemi Plymouth, Jeff discovered a broken transmission. Luckily he had a spare 727 with him and with help from several competitors and Wally Krueger’s lift in his trailer, he was ready to go in no time.
