Adam Sorokin met up with August and had another telepathic light and was on to an easy victory. As the car got to about a thousand feet the little Chevy expired in a large fireball that quickly went out, and the veteran driver brought the car to a safe stop and not one drop of oil on the track.

There was a huge thrash in the Champion pit as the team was forced to replace the engine and other items. The team just made the call, pulled into the back gate to the fire up area with Sorokin already strapped into his bubble for their second round match up with Murphy.

Again, Sorokin had another Pro Stock-type reaction time but the black car fell to the same fate as Bartone.  Murphy would have been hard to beat with a fantastic 5.73 at 258.17 miles per hour. Nevertheless, the win was costly.

Murphy’s engine suffered the same fate as Sorokin’s. An idle circle nozzle failed on the burnout and the cylinder started building temperature and pressure way above normal tolerances. As the car got to the other end it split the piston in half, but the rod stayed together and did not window the block.
