Running the full FIA tour for the first time this season, Mattias Wulcan has become one to keep an eye on, especially after recording fives earlier in the year at a domestic event in Sweden thanks in no small part to the Mike Janis horsepower installed between the framerails. A 6.105 placed the Wulcano Firebird third on the ladder and 6.065 outran Mats Eriksson’s 6.187 in the opening round of eliminations. The remaining two rounds saw Wulcan taking holeshot wins when his performance levels really shouldn’t have done, as David Vegter snoozed away a 6.229 to 6.478 ET advantage with a .299s RT, and in the final a .005s RT kept Wulcan’s 6.082/239.36 ahead of Michael Gullqvist’s 5.984/244.56 by about half a car’s length.
Although slightly sheepish after the holeshot defeat, Gullqvist stretched his lead in the Pro Mod points to almost an event maximum with two meetings remaining, also gaining bragging rights to the first five second doorslammer pass in Germany with a 5.972 to pace qualifying. He maintained a performance edge throughout eliminations with a 5.969 in the opening round win over Norbert Kuno and a 6.047 in the semifinal against Robert Joosten.
