In this match up Greg Leahy (near lane) in the “Harbour City Hustler” takes on Paul Messineo in the “Dark Horse” Mustang. Both drivers went into the match with two wins apiece, Messineo taking out Daniel Schultz and Greg’s brother Peter while Greg had turned back Justin Walshe and Schultz as well. Both left pretty much together (a .141 for Messineo with a .142 for Leahy) however Messino’s Ford slowed in the second half of the track with a 6.72 at only 156 mph allowing Leahy through with a winning 6.268 at 223.28 mph.

A pair of Mustangs (old and new) faced off together in the session – this saw Justin Walshe in the “Lets Boogie” Mach 1 Mustang up against the third generation “Stormtrooper” car of Anthony Begley. In the lead up Begley had taken a win over Aaron Hambridge but fell to Nathan Peirano while Walshe had won on a solo but went down to Greg Leahy. Here it was a pretty close joust as they virtually left as one but at the other end Begley’s car slowed down and his 5.877/214.38 wasn’t good enough to catch Walshe’s 5.770/249.58

One of my favourite drivers to photograph is Harold Campbell. The North Queensland mechanic never fails to impress and as can be seen here he delivered a great crossed up show to the crowd. While he was spectacular he didn’t figure in the results and to be truthful I don’t know why he wasn’t included on 1320 Go.com information.
