PRO EXTREME

Mississippi racer and one of the owners of the PDRA, Jason Scruggs, was the favorite to get his first win of the season due to his scorching qualifying time of 3.561 seconds at 215.75 mph, but he didn’t even get to the final round when he was upset in the semifinals by Texan Randell Reid in his ’07 ‘Vette. Reid was scheduled to race Bubba Stanton but Stanton couldn’t answer the call to lanes for the final round when he couldn’t repair his engine after breaking a connecting rod in his '69 Camaro's engine on his semifinal winning but engine-killing 3.59 time that got him the win over Mike Recchia.

After the race Reid spoke about the aborted final round saying, "I wish we could've matched up with him, but that's the way the cards fell."

With not enough time to swap out the engine for the final, Stanton and team owner Roger Henson were forced to concede their third final-round appearance after winning both previous races.

Badir Ahli

In eliminations, Reid upset fifth-place starter Badir Ahli with a 3.640 pass in round one, then improved to 3.618 to beat former class champ Mick Snyder in round two before meeting Scruggs and his formidable '63 Corvette in the semis.

In the semifinals Reid put a massive holeshot that allowed his 3.613/212.09 timing to beat Scruggs's Top Speed and Low ET of the meet of 3.571 at 214.62 mph by a hundredth at the stripe.

"He's one of the fastest guys in the world in these kind of cars, so it felt really good to do that," Reid said. "We were getting faster with each pass, too, so I think we would've had something for (Stanton) if we had got to run him."
