It was also quite a weekend for Stutz as the nineteen year old announced his intention to move to the Stateside tour with the Lagana Family after the NitrOlymp’X and the Formex Swiss Watches/Midland Oil dragster from the Erbacher stable propelled him to the runner-up spot. The first round of eliminations was a tough one against team owner Urs Erbacher after they had qualified fourth and fifth respectively, with Stutz leaving the line a shade ahead of Erbacher and extending the advantage on a 4.852 to 4.993 drag. Stutz made it to the final with a defeat of low qualifier Thomas Nataas (who produced a 4.510 for low ET of the event in the final qualifier) at the final four stage, lucking out when Nataas’s throttle cable broke with the Norwegian starting to pull away, but lost out to Kågered when Stutz’s belt shed after a pedal to try and regain traction down track.

It was at last year’s NitrOlymp’X that Mattias Wulcan picked up his first FIA tour win and he came into the 2014 edition with a healthy lead in the points off the back of a top step of the podium finish in Finland (a race also blighted by a tricky track). The Wulcano extended his championship lead to a margin which could well prove difficult to overcome with a second win of the year thanks to victories over Andy Robinson, Roger Johansson and Micke Gullqvist with mid to high six second passes before downing final round opponent David Vegter although trailing death smoke through the lights and leaving ‘stuff’ on the track in his wake.
