Jim Murphy led the six-car Top Fuel field with a 6.20 at 223.10 mph.

In Funny Car it was Kris Krabill who led the 10-car field with a 5.97/241.28 and Mike Maggio was the leader of the five cars in Pro Mod at 5.93 and 247.45 mph.

In the second session, which was run during the heat of the afternoon, there was a convergence of adjustments -- those adjustments to the track made by the Firebird staff and those made by the crew chiefs on their racecars.

In Top Fuel, Rick Williamson in the Team Craig car made a very solid run to take the provisional pole with a 5.87/250.97.
Jimmy Young at the wheel of the ex-Jack Harris “Nitro Thunder” car tuned by Steve Watson was number two. This car and crew chief won this event last year.

In Funny Car Dan Horan went from the basement to the penthouse in just 5.85 seconds at 249.37 mph, followed by Krabill with Cory Lee in the “Back in Black” GTO at number three. Steve Nichols in the Jennings Trucking Camaro was number 11 on the bump with an 11.43-second run.

After round two, the Pro Mods continued to be headed by Maggio, followed by his rival Marc Meadors.

On Saturday evening, with a brilliant sunset illuminating the track, the cars came around to make their last qualifying attempts. With all three fields being short this was for placing and for lane choice in round one.
