World Fuel Altered Nationals at Eddyville, Iowa

Iowa is an Altered State

The roaring thunder among the rolling green hills of Southern Iowa were a combination of Mother Nature and Nitro Fuel Altereds at Eddyville this year. On the ninth running of this event, 18 cars showed up to match their horsepower against the best in the nation.

Teams from Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota, Illinois, Nebraska, and Colorado were on hand to battle each other and the elements. Friday night qualifying was called off for excessive rain. This gave spectators and team members a chance to collect T-shirts, hats and hero cards. Testing out umbrellas gave everyone a chance to take plenty of pictures and to listen to rumbling motors and stories being told.

Saturday morning brought more rain and poor conditions. More cackling of the motors, T-shirt sales and hero cards kept everyone busy until the rain stopped and track crews were able to start drying the track.

Late Saturday afternoon marked the first chance to make a qualifying pass. Two untested cars were on hand to make their very first passes. Past winners and drivers, John Dunn of Illinois and Sean Belt of Kansas, had just finished the construction of brand new cars.

Dunn’s new coupe body still was in black gel coating, but this time it was lettered and sporting a new Hemi.
