Roger Lechtenberg pushed his new ride, “Nitro Madness #3”, to a very nice 4.1201 at 184.65 on his Saturday night run for No. 2 qualifying position.

Newcomer Jim Knapp of Moravia, Iowa, qualified well with each pass in the old Nitro Madness car now called ”Bad Attitude” ending in the faster “A” field. Knapp’s blast down the track at 182.56 and an ET of 4.1582 gave him No. 3 position in qualifying. Not bad for a new driver in a rebuilt car.

The entire faster “A” field was made up of past contestants with years of experience in the seat.

Nine-year veteran Dunn was unable to qualify due to running over some cones on the top end while making a hot and wild 4.44 ET pass. This allowed last year’s “B” field winner Bill Seals to jump into the faster “A” field this year.
