Sunday Final Eliminations

When the second round of Eliminations began on Sunday both the 2015 Championship and the race championship were still to be determined.

Quarterfinal action saw Coughlin step up to beat Frigo with a 5.867/252.85 timing that easily covered Frigo’s 5.973/223.10 losing effort. That win allowed Coughlin and his turbocharged mount to take over the Championship points lead. Then Rahaim, who was third in the standings and the last racer who mathematically had a chance to catch and pass Coughlin, lost to Snavely’s 5.886/254.14 pass that trailered Rahaim who struggled to a 6.043/241.50.  The loss allowed Coughlin to clinch the championship for the second time.

"It seems like it just happened yesterday that we won the first title," Coughlin said. "Boy, what a sweet deal. What can I say about all the guys on this JEGS.com car. It's pretty exciting. To come back and do it again, that doesn't happen very often. As tough as this class has gotten over the last couple years, it makes it that much sweeter, for sure."

Pete Farber

In the semi-finals Coughlin's day ended as he slowed to a tire spinning wheelstanding  7.594/130.03 mph that lost to Pete Farber who shoed his Dodge Daytona to a winning 5.967/242.98.

"We got to the semifinals and knew we should run about an .88, .89," Coughlin said. "That's what we were shooting for. Farber is a pretty good racer, and those guys could be fast at any time. We just tried to give it a little bit of a tune-up, but both cars got a little bit loose. It spun the tires and hiked the front end back up. I wished it was going straight -- I think we could've got away with it -- but it was still fun to drive."

On the other side of the ladder alBalooshi drove his Hemi-powered Camaro to a 5.829/247.16 to best 2014 RPM Champ Rickie Smith’s nitrous-injected Chevy powered Camaro that ran a 5.944/244.03. AlBalooshi took out Steven Whiteley in his supercharged Cadillac CTS-V in the second round.

In the finals alBalooshi drove his Al-Anabi Racing ’69 Camaro to the win over Pete Farber. In that final, alBalooshi posted a 6.854/245.76 effort that easily covered Farber’s dead game 6.942 at 244.43. The win was alBalooshi’s first win of the 2015 season and third of his Pro Mod career.
