The feisty little Mazda MX5 (known in the U.S. as a Miata) of Lee Docherty was to have a run he wouldn’t forget too quickly. As can be seen here the car (on the left) had cleared the traps without any drama but as it passed me it turned hard right in front of his opponent and hit the opposite wall very hard before scraping its onto the return road. Fortunately Docherty was unhurt in the crash with the likely cause a collapsed left front wheel.

It was Toyota versus Nissan in the final of Factory Extreme when Joe Signorelli in a 2JZ powered 2004 Scion (near lane) took on the VR38 powered R35 GTR of Mark Jacobson. Going into this tussle Jacobson had been the most consistent with a best of 6.555/209.59 while Signorelli’s best lap wasn’t far behind with a 6.623/204. In the money round Jacobson took a slight lead off the line with Signorelli in hot pursuit, however as he tried to shift the Toyota into third gear the gearbox cried enough. This left the GTR to click the win light with a 6.53/210.08 over a second best 7.65.
