As in past years the funny car show was a match race deal with the outstanding run being Marc White's 5.673/254.95 in Frank Ousley's "Crop Duster" Monza as the other cars all suffered a variety of problems.

Junior Fuel was an all Texas shootout in the final as former winner Ken Hawkins and Mike Buchanan fell to Mike Millsap and Odie Coker respectively in round one. Number-one qualifier Coker had more than a tenth advantage over Millsap and that may have been why Millsap lit the red bulb in the final while Coker scooted to a 7.276, his best run of the event.

In the 7.0 Pro category number-one qualifier (with a 7.002) Jeff Sanborn was on fire this weekend. He carded a 7.018 with a .004 in a first round bye, was off with a .052 initiated 6.992 when Preston Davis bulbed in the second round and then went 7.008 (.023 RT) and then 7.000 (.007 RT) before lifting to a 7.069 at only 156 mph in the final as his .025 light gave him enough margin over favorite Robbie Freels who had a 7.002 but was late. All this in a car that was originally built 25 years ago and is still substantially the same under the updated body.

Perennial NDRL favorite Wayne Sears (shown) only qualified fourth in 7.50 Pro but #1 qualifier Michelle Lewis was the only higher qualified car to make it out of round one. Both made it to the third round but Lewis was uncharacteristically late and fell to Ross Laird, who then advanced to the final on a bye while Sears defeated Darrell Wathen. Laird fouled in that race to put Sears in the winner's circle.
