Jimmy Jones and Raymond Dawson were the first pair through the waterbox in a heavy hitting blown alcohol match up.  Jones was out first and increasing his lead all the way, blasting to a 3.94 at 182 mph to Dawson's 4.24 at 168 mph.  The champ John Broussard was out next taking on the top qualifier Buchanan.  In only his fourth pass in the car, Buchanan's nerves got the best of him as he jumped the starting line, while Broussard clicked off a 4.07 winning pass at 176 mph.  Terry Brian wheeled the "Nitro Warrior" to the line ready to take on Donny McSwain's "Wild One" tuned by Kenny Trumble as eliminations continued. Brian took a slight starting line advantage and posted a strong 3.94 at 184 mph to McSwain's close 4.00 at 177 mph.

Bobby Marriott and Donnie Massey were up next in an all nitro burning match up.  Header flames were high in the sky in both lanes as these two blasted down the eighth mile as Marriott used a huge hole shot and 4.14 at 179 mph to Massey's quicker but loosing 4.06 at 179 mph.  Mary Reep and Ken Singleton crept to the stage beams next, but Singleton was forced to shut off on the line while Reep posted a solid 4.02 at 176 mph, a nice lap, but short of a ticket to the final round.  Dodad Burton and team "Free Spirit" completed the first round of eliminations on a bye run with an odd number of cars able to make the call for first round.  Burton posted his best run of the night with a 4.15 at 171 mph, but it was Jimmy Jones and Terry Brian who were final round bound, both holding a 3.94 time slip in what looked to be a stellar final round on paper.

It was final round time in Denton, Texas with a multi-time Champion in Jimmy Jones the blown alcohol entry set to do battle with the nitro burning machine of Terry Brian who is quickly improving on his new car which he debuted last season.  Side by side burnouts got the action started but after they backed up, something didn't seem right with Brian's "Nitro Warrior" entry.  Brian had to whack the throttle to get the car to roll forward into the beams; it was simply out of clutch pack.  At the flash of amber, Brian's car went nowhere while Jones was picking them up and putting them down in a hurry, taking the win with low elapsed time of the event, a stellar 3.88 at 183 mph.

Final Round Results:(W) Jimmy Jones (.082 rt) 3.88 @ 183 vs. (L) Terry Brian (.107 rt) 9.07 @ 43
