In a similar vein to Top Fuel, FIA Pro Modified eliminations saw a significant number of upsets and incidents throughout the ladder. First up was low qualifier (at 5.993) Micke Gullqvist leaving two tenths early and chucking away a 6.023 to allow Andreas Arthursson to progress to the final four thanks to a second round bye.

Tero Laukkanen

Next up saw Tero Laukkanen rip off a 6.093 to handily defeat Håkan Persson also in the opening round, but things went awry when the Finn pulled the chutes on a 253.52mph (over the Euro speed record) terminal; they briefly flourished, then departed sending the turbo'ed Mustang spinning off track before coming to a halt in the sand trap at the end and leaving Laukkanen with a major cleanup to remove all of the gravel that had worked its way through the motor, chassis and body.
