FIA Pro Modified

Mats Eriksson

Micke Gullqvist

The track problems over previous seasons meant a reduction in entry in the FIA Pro Mod class (and the absence of FIA Pro Stock Car from the event), but those that did appear put on a stout show with Mats Eriksson doing his championship position no harm at all with an accumulation of the ‘little’ points in qualifying culminating in the top spot on the ladder with a 6.152. Eriksson then progressed through to the final defeating Norbert Schneider and Tero Laukkanen (the latter having dusted down his turboed Mustang after its off-road adventure in Finland) before fronting up with compatriot Michael Gullqvist in the final. Gullan had qualified in second spot with a 6.163 but improved on race day and dipped into the 6.0s at the semifinal stage with a 6.017/241.06 accounting for Bruno Bader and taking the low ET and TS bragging rights for the class.

The all Swedish final had Gullqvist again in the six zeros and a 6.033/239.52 lit the win light ahead of Eriksson’s 6.139/231.31.

“We have had the fastest car at all events this year but I threw it away at the first couple of races. We went to Hockenheim to win, no more mistakes allowed and our focus and determination paid off well,” commented Gullan after the race, although Eriksson now has the best part of three elimination rounds lead in the points, Bader and Gullqvist can’t be counted out just yet.
