Brown wraps up third Top Fuel championship, others come down to final event

NHRA announced that the Las Vegas event was sold out ticket-wise. We don’t doubt it.

Antron Brown secured his third NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Top Fuel world championship Sunday, Oct. 30, at the NHRA Toyota Nationals.

John Force (Funny Car), Steve Torrence (Top Fuel), Shane Gray (Pro Stock) and Jerry Savoie (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were event winners at the 23rd race on the 24-event NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule. It is the fifth race of the six-race NHRA Countdown to the Championship.

TOP FUEL

Antron Brown became the first driver in the nitro category to score a back-to-back championship since 2009. Brown clinched his third NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Top Fuel world championship Sunday and for the second straight year he did it at Las Vegas and was able to bank the $500,000 bonus for Don Schumacher Racing with one event left in the season.

The Matco team led by crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald with Brad Mason provided Don Schumacher Racing with its 15th NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series championship.
