Bobby Johns

In the final, the two “Florida boys” -- although one transplanted to Ohio (Underwood) -- battled it out which didn’t get past the Christmas tree when Underwood turned on the red light by five-thousandths of a second handing the win to Johns.

SUNDAY, NOV. 13

Sunday in lovely Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida brought out another great group of racers, all with dollar signs in their eyes with $10,000 on the line to some lucky racer at the Fun In The Sun Bracket Race presented by Lucas Oil.

The S&W Race Cars Best Losing Package (although said politically-correct as Best Non-Winner - we wouldn’t want to offend anyone) in the first round went to Brian Gasper. The Strange Engineering Best Losing Package in the second round was awarded to Willard Pusey.

Nine cars made up the round before the quarterfinals and the three doors cars of Perk Perkins, Todd Thompson and Dave Triplett were set to battle against the dragsters of Richard Arnold, Randy Folk, David Guerra, A.J. Ashe, last night’s runner-up Kenny Underwood and Jeff Keen.

For that pre-quarterfinal round, the two door cars of Triplett and Perkins survived, while the dragsters of Folk, Guerra and Ashe made it through. Of interest in that round was the two Million Dollar Race winners Triplett and Underwood faced off with Triplett using a .001 reaction time and a .002 over his dial to dispatch last night’s runner-up Underwood.

Quarterfinal action found Triplett going .001 on the red side on the two for one race where the winner goes to the final, that person being Folk. Perkins still kept the door car hopes alive with a win over Ashe and Guerra took the odd car bye run.

Semifinals, the lone door car pushed the ‘tree and came up .003 red, while Guerra laid down a .006 package in the opposite lane to move into the final against Folk.

Randy Folk

For the final, Guerra left first by virtue of his dial but the man who hasn’t won a race in ten years proved he still has what it takes. Randy Folk from nearby Bradenton, used a .007 reaction time and closed the finish line up to six-ten-thousandths (.0006) to earn his victory.

“We had another successful event and we’d like to thank each and every racer for coming out to enjoy not only the great weather, but the racing as well,” said promoter Scottie Richardson. “We look forward to putting on this race for years to come and we’ll be announcing the dates for the 2017 version shortly, so please keep an eye on the various social media sights as well as our own www.ghrseries.com.”
