Eighteen cars faced the starter in the first round of Bracket C that included two solo runs. While a very competitive set of races were run and won by the semi-finals there were three racers left including Sean Maher in his 370 Chev powered HB Torana that soloed into the final and then when Ronny Di Basi slept on the line and then broke out trying to catch Debbie Martin’s big block Ford powered Falcon. Martin’s run of luck ended there though when Maher out reacted her in the final frame and ran closer to his dial in with a .44 lit 0.065 over 9.735 turning back a second best .60 reacted .234 over 9.944.

Bracket D had one less driver in the first frame than the slightly quicker Bracket C, however some good close racing whittled the field down to the final two with John Kerr in his 302 Ford powered Mercury Comet facing the 393 cubed Cleveland powered Ford Falcon of Richard Matosevic. Uncharacteristically this race was decided on the line with Kerr going cherry picking pulling a one tenth red light off the line. At the other end Matosevic pushed his dial-in with a break out 11.137 on his 11.17 but it didn’t matter as Kerr’s indiscretion had already given the win to his opponent.
