Some of the AA Funny Cars at San Antonio

QUALIFYING

With just one day available for the Nitro teams to make two qualifying laps and as many as three rounds of Eliminations, the 11 IHRA-legal AA/FC teams were called for first round of qualifying at noon. One of the first cars out was two-time DRO Challenge champion Paul Romine wheeling his Lucas Oil, Mickey Thompson-sponsored Mustang with veteran tuner Mike Cavalieri tuning. The “Man O’ War” ripped off a 5.654/247 blast that put the team solidly at the top of the field.

Some of the other teams like three-time DRO Challenge champ Mike Bowen and Mike McIntire Jr. made laps that would have qualified them but because they oiled the track their runs were thrown out, giving them just one lap to qualify.
