Nitro Nationals at Cayuga, Ontario

A Pictorial

The 7th Annual Nitro Nationals rolled into Toronto Motorsports Park on the July 4th weekend with record crowds and gorgeous weather. The property was filled to capacity with race cars and enough Nitro to go around.

Those in attendance had the pleasure of watching a wide array of cars make their way down the quarter mile. The staging lanes were packed with Pro Mods, Top Sportsman cars and a few Alcohol Funny Cars too. But it was pretty clear the crowd was there for one reason and one reason only: NITRO.

The Nitro Funny Cars of Jack Wyatt and Dale Creasy thrilled the crowd with long smoky burnouts and flame belching runs close to the magic number of 300 mph. Jeff Diehl didn't disappoint either with his throwback to the days gone by having a back-up girl clad in short-shorts guide him into the beams for his run. Terry Haddock rounded out the Nitro Funny Cars in attendance.

Once the smoke cleared it was on to Top Fuel where Canadians Todd Paton and Ike Maier took on the task of racing Smax Smith and Jenna Haddock.

Two Jet Dragsters made exhibition runs paving the way for the finale: the Jet Truck “Shockwave.” As the three-engine monster made its way across the finish line the fireworks lit up the sky, capping off an incredible day at the track.
