While the big dogs set the high marks at Speed Week, as they always do, there were over 500 entries for the week and close to 30% of them were motorcycles. JoAnn Carlson, the Media Liaison for the Southern California Timing Association / BNI stated, “Ever since the movie the World’s Fastest Indian came out of Hollywood, we have had an influx of motorcycles every year.”

There is no more important moment in a racer’s career than when the chief starting line steward at Bonneville points at you and says GO!

The bikes include everything from 50cc machines up to the big streamliner machines. None of the big dog bikes were in competition during Speed Week 2016. It’s assumed they were saving their horses for another event in the not too distant future.

However, many motorcycles large and small did run during Speed Week and a look at the race results for the SCTA on their official website will reveal all the runs by all who were there. The SCTA-BNI World Finals will be held on the Salt, this coming September 27-30, and it will be interesting to see which records will fall and who will be the first to go 500 MPH.
