The King & Marshall Funny Car started off the show with a thundering half-track burnout to set the pace for the evening. But in its wake it produced an oil slick that began in the water box and laid waste to the left lane for the entire quarter mile to the finish line where the car stopped. The Exxon Valdez did no worse in its day. It was one hour plus fourteen minutes before the next car ran down track.

No matter, the New England Dragway fans are some of the best in drag racing. Many of the fans who walked through the gates at 3 p.m. to see the big event were still in there at 11 p.m. when racing wrapped up for the day. They saw Bob Tasca III and Tim Wilkerson light up the New England night with header flames from their NHRA Funny Cars. They also witnessed the Hard Guy’s car, Bruce Larson’s USA-1 Camaro, The Boston Challenger, the Total Insanity, the War Path and other Funny Cars as well, pound out their 1320 song. Racing fans saw Pro Mods, Top Sportsman cars, Pro 7.0 and a full slate of sportsman cars, motorcycles and drag sleds from 9:30 a.m. till the end of the show.
