Cool temps result in record numbers

Antron Brown is hot, hot, hot!

Tommy Johnson Jr. raced to the Funny Car victory at the Dodge NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway on Sunday, Oct. 2. Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Vincent Nobile (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were also victorious at the 21st event of 24 on the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule. The Dodge NHRA Nationals is the third race of the six-race NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Rain on Thursday and Friday meant qualifying would be only one round on Saturday with the wet stuff also causing delays in the Sunday program. The cool temperatures made it great for the race cars with several track records being set, but a little uncomfortable for crew members and fans.

TOP FUEL

Antron Brown and Matco Tools' "Tools for the Cause" team recorded another milestone victory on Sunday at Maple Grove Raceway. It marked their sixth win of the season and the 60th of Brown's Mello Yello Drag Racing Series career, with 44 of those coming in Top Fuel competition, ranking him fourth all-time in the category.

Crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald with assistant Brad Mason led the Matco Tools/U.S. Army team to its 10th final round of the season and fourth in the last six races and 75th career Top Fuel final.
