The chassis is stripped down so I can inspect
all the welds and service the 4-link rod ends.
Those of you who followed the project may notice
the coil-over shock and spring are gone. They
have been shipped to AFCO to be dyno'd and rebuilt.
The inspection is important and if you have
a dragster take the time to crawl around it
and check it out closely.
I didn't realize I would need so many boxes
and space once I started taking the "Project
4-Link" apart. Two 8-ft banquet tables, every
shelf I had and tons of floor space were filled
up. Now I have to see if I have enough memory
left to reassemble it!
Some of the "internals" in the 540-inch Mopar.
Eagle rods and Arias pistons. The bearings were
showing some signs of pitting. I think that
was from me not getting the oil hot enough to
dry the motor out on cool days last spring.
I have since added two block heaters and an
oil pan heater to fight off condensation in
our cool climate.
The foundation of what has been a very reliable
engine, the Mopar Performance Mega-Block. Super
beefy cross-bolted main caps and very thick
cylinder walls make it a very good block for
any Mopar combination.
Here is that "tricked out garage." Seventy-five
years old and I would bet the guy who built
it for his buggies and Model A wouldn't believe
it now has a 160-mph dragster parked in it.
Nothing fancy, but it has good lighting and
a furnace (we need it because right now it is
14 degrees with a 20 mph North wind). Notice
that "white stuff" -- it is NOT SAND!
