John Lawson had a little trouble with his Lucas Oil-sponsored Pontiac Funny Car. He didn't make the field.

Whit Bazemore was No. 1 qualifier with a 4.800/318.92 run, but was taken out of the running by John Force in the Funny Car semi's. Here Bazemore makes a point to starter Rick Stewart.

John Force finally got career win number 100. "I'm glad to get it over," he said, adding that most of the credit should go to Austin Coil. "I hired Coil 17 years ago and we've won all 100 of our races with Austin and Castrol GTX." Coil credited the whole team that Force has put together. "What keeps this machine keep on rolling is just buckets of money," Coil said. "As long as the sponsors keep feeding John the buckets of money, he keeps spending it on his race team. Some guys are prone to try to sock it away for their old age. For all the budget meetings we've had, there isn't anything left over at the end of the year."
