PINING FOR THE PAST, AMERICAN STYLE

Nostalgia is a big deal in drag racing right now, with ever increasing field of nostalgia funny cars in various parts of the country, and incursions into the "old tyme" 1320 arena by established NHRA racers. The Quizzter seeks to go them all one better, recalling a day when true competition for drag racing sanctioning supremacy was being waged. Back then, it was NHRA VS AHRA, and for many a year, it was anybody's guess which august body would prevail. But time marches on and the winners have already written that history book, so let's have a five spot of American Hot Rod Association trivia. We've been here before, but why not go back for another taste? Dig in, 1320 freaks.

#1 Keeping in mind there were two different American Hot Rod Associations, who is on the books as the first President of the first AHRA?
A JIM TICE SR C WALTER MENZER
B DON GARLITS D ORVILLE MOE
#2 Not counting anything that ever happened at Spokane Raceway Park, where was the last AHRA Grand American event held?
A KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI
C ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI
B TULSA, OKLAHOMA D EUNICE, LOUISANNA
#3 AHRA made a lot of history in its day, perhaps most notably with Don Garlits and his Professional Racers Association. What year did the two entities team up to present the first ever AHRA/PRA National Challenge event?
A 1970
C 1972
B 1971 D 1973
#4 After the death of Jim Tice, Sr., and subsequent sale of the company to businessman Jim Gray, most of the AHRA track owners split and formed their own sanctioning body. With a mid-season startup in 1984,where did the new  ADRA hold it's first event?
A DRAGWAY 42
C TULSA INTERNATIONAL RACE WAY
B KANSAS CITY INTERNATIONAL RACE WAY D SPOKANE RACEWAY PARK
#5   For many of us here at Drag Racing Online, St. Louis (now Gateway) International Raceway has been a personal touchstone of sorts. From the days of fire burnouts by Big Daddy, 3 AM nitro qualifying sessions, and no track-side guard rail to hide behind, "The Swamp" did it's part to launch a career or two. So who was the last driver to win Top Fuel at a St. Louis based AHRA Grand American event?
A DON GARLITS
C JOHN ABBOTT
B JERRY RUTH D GENE SNOW
