RUSSELL, BARTONE MAKE TEST RUNS
Among those making test runs at Charley Allen's Firebird Raceway in Phoenix were Darrell Russell (left), the former Top Alcohol Dragster driver who will fill Joe Amato's Top Fuel seat this year, and Tony Bartone, the former Top Alcohol Funny Car driver who will understudy Jerry Toliver in this year's WWF effort. Russell ran a best of 4.779/296.24.

SNAKE'S TEAM IS ON-TRACK
Don "the Snake" Prudhomme's team was the class of the Phoenix test session with Larry Dixon driving the Miller Lite dragster to a series of 4.60s. Dixon ran a 4.636 at only 278.63-mph. The half-track speed was 269+ so 4.50's should be no sweat for this team in 2001.

TWO OF A KIND FOR SKOAL
The Skoal Racing Camaro Funny Cars of Ron Capps and Tommy Johnson Jr. recorded elapsed times of 4.871 and 4.869 seconds, respectively, in Monday's pre-season test session.

Johnson, getting in his first runs as a member of Don "The Snake" Prudhomme's team, turned in the day's second-quickest time with his afternoon run in the Skoal Blue team Camaro.

Capps then added his second consecutive 4.87-second run in the Green team Camaro. Both cars ran 312 mph. Capps' first quarter-mile run in 2001 was 4.876 at 307.86. His speed in his second pass was 312.78 compared to Johnson's 312.64.

Ed "The Ace" McCulloch, crew chief for both cars, was pleased with the results. He and Prudhomme decided the two cars would be tuned exactly the same. The cars were within two-thousandths of a second and within .14 mph of each other on the afternoon run.
