Special K (Keosauqua-Kahoka-Keokuk)

Slipping back in time to 1960, bringing you more history of 1/8 mile drag racing in the Tri-State area of Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri: We remember the dedication of a group of young men from Keosauqua, Iowa--the Peasants Car Club!

Des Moines, Iowa, 2010: Someone who cares (probably Ray Halberstadt) snapped this photo of their tool box with a 45 year old Tri-State Dragway decal on board!  Thanks, Ray.

Keosauqua, Iowa, circa ’62:  This photo includes most of the ‘Peasants Car Club’. This group of High School boys came to Kahoka in 1960 when the new track opened.  Their volunteer help and gritty competition was part of the reason for Tri State Dragway’s success!  Several of those in this picture have contacted me, or Jeff Burk, since my adventure with DRO began last year.
