BARONA RACEWAY – DRAGS

Barona Reservation, Ca.,2012:  Up Wildcat Canyon Rd. and five miles past the giant Barona Casino is the area’s only remaining drag strip, Barona Raceway!  The NHRA sanctioned 1/8 mile plant in the foothills above San Diego offers a full slate of events for area racers. The Mezier family has raced all sorts of sportsman cars in NHRA competition for over 40 years!

This is just a quick ‘snapshot’ of the drag racing action from 1953 to 2012 in the San Diego metro area. Living in North San Diego County for 20 years, brought me much closer to the action and rich history this area possesses.

As depicted on the dragster above, several leading equipment manufactures and car builders call San Diego their home.

From the sprawling Crower complex in Chula Vista, to the Lenco transmission plant on Federal Blvd. in Lemon Grove, and on north to Escondido where the Mezier Components plant is located; San Diego is a major cog in the supply chain of the racing world!

Until next time, Be On Time!
