Tri State Dragway, Kahoka, Mo. 1961: It finally happened!  Someone located and sent us a photo which depicts our timing tower at Kahoka in all its architectural glory.  On the track in the Chevrolet V8 is Russ Risley from Muscatine, Iowa, while the ’38 Chevy looks like Steve McGrath in his D/SM from Keosaqua, Iowa.  (Thanks to Ray H. for the photo)

After the first year, we knew we needed better traction and lights for night racing. To my knowledge, we did not copy any other venue when we laid out and poured two 150’ long, 20’ wide concrete starting line areas. We built a makeshift timing tower and found some spare money to install flood lights from a defunct auction lot in Illinois.

This is a recent photo sent to DRO of a Chevy powered dragster which “used to have a Pontiac engine”.  On close inspection, it is the homemade chassis that Kent Martin built in 1960, which was always Buick powered, not Pontiac. The longevity of this car is amazing. (Thanks to the photo provider)
