One of Ron's first crewman roles was on this heavweight '65 Chevrolet Biscayne powered by a blown 427 Paul Althouse motor. The car was owned and driven by Bob Davis. He was employed by Union Oil Company in Long Beach. As the need for traction compounds became popular, Bob was the manager of STC Green Grip, a Union Oil Subsidiary.

AHRA Winternationals at Beeline Dragway, 1967:

Mike Jones drives a Bill Thomas Race Cars 'Cheetah' through the Phoenix, Ariz. quarter mile strip in quest of another record and an A/MSP car win.  One of the main crew members of this venture was Ron Ogilvie!

Ron and I first started racing together in 1968 after we obtained a '68 Camaro 396 with an automatic transmission from Chevrolet Performance. The original idea was to take the car off the assembly line in Van Nuys, Calif., and develop it into a record-setting NHRA Super Stock!  With that in mind, a second (Jim McFarland wrote the first) 396 Handbook would be written.

The book was started but never published, however the script envisioned by Chevrolet engineers and Bill Thomas was totally followed. Much of the credit for the project goes to crew chief, Ron Ogilvie.

We picked the car up in La Cresenta, Wednesday morning and took it directly to OCIR that night for their weekly Wednesday bracket race. After seven rounds of Ron keeping it running exactly 15.20s, we won the bracket!  And on the way home, the new car had less than 200 miles.
