I have a chance to pick up a 671 blower, manifold
and injector hat which came off a small block
pulling motor. I was wondering what the difference
was between a race blower and a street blower?
Would I be able to convert the race blower over
to a street blower? I don't much about fuel
injection so I would prefer to run carb on it.
Any info you could give me would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Janice
Janice,
There are a lot of people that
don't know the difference, so it is a great
question. A race blower with Alcohol injection
when built is given tighter end clearances and
also the rotors are equipped with Teflon and
Nylatron sealing strips. This is done to reduce
leakage in the unit and improve the superchargers
efficiency. An injected gasoline blower will

not
be as tight as an alcohol unit because of a
lower Latent Diffusion of heat value of gasoline
... meaning that the unit will run hotter and
need more clearance for thermal expansion.
The mechanical injection that
you purchased with this 6-71 should not be used
for street driving as it will not operate very
well in part throttle conditions. It has no
provisions for an intermediate circuit and such.
So using carburetors is a better choice for
you; of course I would recommend an EFI unit
as they offer unlimited control and great drivability.
The supercharger needs to be disassembled and
set up for the conditions you are going ask
it to operate in. The Teflon in the rotors is
simply cut down so as not to create added heat
in your street scenario.
Good luck,
