THE GREAT CROSS-COUNTRY CAMARO TOUR

LAST DAY

We spent so little time in Idaho that we never got to see Mr. Potato Head. Within a half-hour this morning, we were already into the Evergreen State -- our ninth state on this journey.

But what is the matter with Washingtonians? They have no sense of adventure! Not one of them would take me up on my offer on this final day of travel. I was willing to give $10 to anyone who would lick the bugs off the front grille of the Camaro. A few said they'd do it for $100. So much for The Taste of Camaro experiment.

Now, all along, my cohorts had been betting that I would received at least three speeding tickets. Fools. I didn't get any!!! Ah-HAhahaha! Curiously, we didn't see all that many police officers the entire trip. We had been hoping to share a doughnut or two with them.

However, I did talk with one in Washington. He caught up to the Camaro and pulled me over. He said, "Uh, Lady, seems you left your mother at the gas station back there." I said, "Oh, thank goodness!!!! Thank you, sir!!! There for awhile, I thought I was going deaf!" Not true. Cheap joke. Sorry, Mom.

We knew we were almost home when we reached one of the state's most popular locations: George, Washington. The amphitheater there, in the Columbia River Gorge, hosts top rock, pop and country concerts. After miles of wheat fields and corn, potato, bean, carrot and turnip fields, we climbed through the Cascade Mountains and motored down into Seattle. Even rush hour wasn't a bother (we got to use the diamond lane!).

So we're home now. My mom is eager to get back to her life in Indianapolis, but -- unlike our dear editor, Jeff, after his first ride -- she didn't leap from the car and kiss the ground!! The kids enjoyed the ride home from school in the Camaro, and the neighbors appreciated the upgrade in our driveway! This Camaro is an awesome little car. Thank you so much, Scott Settlemire and Fred Simmonds and Jeff Romack and Jennifer Chestnut and all the good folks at General Motors!!!!
