Tim,

I have a 1973 Chevy pickup with leaf spring rear suspension and 295 BF Goodrich tires, fairly good shocks, a 12-bolt posi rearend, and 373 gears. I built the motor myself and I'm

afraid the big block has too much torque for the truck, because it never hooks up in first gear and my e.t.'s won't go lower than a 13.7.

I need some learning experience with suspension. Can you recommend any add-ons or replacements to better my quarter-mile time?

Thank you.

Dominic,

Trucks are inherently bad at hooking up because of the weight percentage available to the rear tires. A good place to start would be with a pair of ladder bars and tunable shocks. Both of these items working together will greatly enhance the traction your truck is getting. You don't have to spend a ton of money on these items and they are easy to install at home with some welding experience.

If you are not comfortable with the installation, a chassis shop shouldn't charge you too much to do the work.

Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

Tim
