Check Out That Chassis

1/23/2008

Good morning Scott,

During some shakedown passes last Sunday at Cal Dragway, My Vega super gas car was pulling hard to the right during the launch.  It's a 2400 lb car with a four link and koni double adjustable shocks, running 8lbs of tire pressure on Hoosier 14 x 31's.  The car was down for a couple years but I don't remember it behaving this way in the past.  It was built as a pro stock car back in the day and I was told it was done at Chris Alston's shop.  I have a friend with some scales and we are going to see what the weight distribution is at now.  What do you recommend?  4-link adjustment?  Shock adjust?

Thank you and best regards,

Gary,

Scaling the car will give you a good baseline to make adjustments from. With the car sitting for a couple of years you may need to take all the shocks off and check them out, just take the springs off and run them thru their travel to make shore they work smoothly. Now that you have the car up in the air with the shocks off I would check out all the rod end and how smooth the suspension moves. If this all check out good scale it and call me with the numbers it might just need a preload adjustment.
