Got to love the tail fins! When was the last time you saw a race car without a single decal of any kind?

He had a new car built in 1990 and, yes, it was a Dodge. It was 1990 Dodge Daytona and again success came early for Robert. In 1991 he did it yet again, capturing the Division 2 championship. He raced the Daytona for a few more years and in 1995 had a new Dodge Avenger built by Race Craft Race Cars. He ran it mostly in Top Sportsman and in 2001 he raced Top Sportsman with the NHRA.

Over the years Robert constantly had the Avenger updated. In 2007 he made the switch from a nitrous powerplant to a 479 cubic inch Mopar and it had a twin turbo set up. One of his first passes he had an accident at Orangeburg and rebuilt the car completely.

"I could have had a new car built for the money I spent on the rebuild of the Avenger," he admits. "The Avenger was a really a good car. I enjoyed racing it but I wanted something new."

In 2012 Robert commissioned Suncoast Race Cars to build a chassis and mount the body on his new 1958 Plymouth Fury. This car has a 572 cubic inch Indy Headed Wedge engine built by Mike Ford Racing Engines. It has Moran fuel injectors pumping the fuel. A massive 114-mm Precision Turbo is the power adder of choice. It’s backed by Lenco Transmission built by JW Performance.

"I hired Richard and his guys to build the chassis and mount the body," Sellers said. "My son, Ricky, did the body and paint work. Jeff Winholz, Mike Tokarz and his son helped a bunch and they did a lot of prep work. I did all the fabrication on the tubing for the Turbo.

“It’s just a lot of friends and family that have helped me do all this. I want each and every one of them to know just how much I appreciate the help that they have given me. Without them I know I couldn’t have done it."

Robert isn’t done with his Fury either. Plans are for a new Hemi and a couple of Turbos. Robert only has a hand full of eighth-mile passes on the Fury and has already posted a 4.16 at 179 mph. Robert says that there is a lot more in the car with the power plant that he has now. So when the Hemi is put in place the Fury will be a major threat to win any event he attends.
