The team of idiots that perform the down-time entertainment show should be shot and killed…boy, are they horrible.

It seems that the NHRA tech officials are really cracking down. A lot of teams had issues in post-qualifying inspection, most notably Tim Wilkerson, whose best run was tossed out over a quarter inch in body height.

Speaking of getting the boot, Allen Johnson was stuck between a rock and a hard place with his breathalyzer test. It most probably cost him the championship -- kinda reminds me of the Jeremy Mayfield incident in NASCAR.

The Johnson family also had some other problems, as Allen’s dad Roy left this trailer unlocked when he was running his S/S Dodge Challenger. Seems some enterprising perps grabbed his wallet with his cash and credit cards in it and went on a spending spree. They returned to the track to attempt to strike again and got caught inside a notable racer’s motorhome. The rumor is that he made sure justice was served before turning them over to the authorities.

Here’s an item from the strange but true dept, and if I’m lying I’m dying: Through the power of the internet I hooked up with a guy by the name of Clint Thompson, a TA/FC racer from Oregon who was coming across country to race at the Carolina Nationals on a mission. His goal was that he wanted to race the baddest racer in TA/FC, Frank “Ace” Manzo.

When he arrived in town, I made it a point to stop by his pit, introduce myself, and welcome him to my home state, and I told him that I'd be his east coast good luck charm. He qualified second, and I when I saw him in the staging lanes before first round I went up to him and rubbed him on his head for good luck. He kinda freaked out, but he went out and won that round. I made it a point to rub his head before the second round and again he won. Third round I rubbed him one more time in front of a bunch of people and guess what? He won again and he was going into the final against Manzo.

I had planned to leave the track before the final round so I made it a point to stop by his pit and rub his head before I left. I'd like to say that Clint won the race but he didn't, he lost by only a few thousandths of a second. His wife told me that if he beat Manzo I could plan on going on the road with them.

In closing, I had a good time at the Carolina Nationals. What’s not to like about going to the drags, sniffing some nitro, and seeing old and new friends?
