A word about "Leslie."

In explaining in last month’s issue why my column is currently titled 1319 Notes, I discussed some of the my comings and goings in the world of drag racing. One of the activities I began away from the asphalt was an attempt to become an artist through the implementation of my Mac computer and photographs I’ve accumulated over the years. Some of the pictures I’ve been working on are involved with drag racing in one way or another, though many are not.

One of the pictures that has pleased me most is this one of Leslie Lovett, good friend, drag racing photographer nonpareil, and maybe the hardest working man I ever met in drag racing. Here, he’s attending to one of the details — preparing to make notes on a film cannister in the midst of action at the 1972 Winternationals — that stamped him as the very best of his time. I miss him and his art and craft.
