NHRA NITROUS PRO MOD RUMORS UNTRUE!
Drag Racing Online has had many calls from concerned Pro Mod racers
about the rumor that has been circulating that NHRA is considering making
their Pro Mod series exclusively a nitrous series for the 2003 season.
We had enough calls on the subject that we decided to go to the source
and called NHRA Competition Committee member Len Imbrogno. We told him
the rumor we had heard and asked if there was any truth to it. Imbrogno
told DRO that it was absolutely untrue.
"One of the facets of the Pro Modified class that everyone on the committee
likes and Tom Compton himself has said he likes is the diversity of
the Pro Modified class," Imborgno said. "We all feel the nitrous versus
supercharger aspect of the class is the main attraction the class has
for spectators. I can tell you that there are absolutely no plans to
make the class exclusively a nitrous one. We are much more concerned
with developing rules that will create a level playing field so that
both nitrous cars and blower cars have an equal opportunity to compete
and win at NHRA Pro Modified events."
PRO STOCK ASSOCIATION VOTES WEIGHT BREAK IN
In a previous entry Agent 1320 reported that a reduction in minimum
weight for NHRA Pro Stockers was in the works. Apparently, it was a
done deal and the Agent didn't know it. One of the Agent's operatives
called to say that the Pro Stock owners association evidently voted
on the proposal during the NHRA World Finals at Pomona. According to
our source the vote count was eight for, six against, and four "no vote."
Apparently that means that the 50-lb weight break will probably be in
effect for 2002.
