KAYLEE UPDATE

Just wanted to thank you folks at Drag Racing Online for publishing the story about Kaylee and the benefit race for her. The race was a huge success and raised over 60,000 dollars. We had donations of both money and merchandise from as for away as Australia. This wouldn't have been possible if it hadn't been for websites like yours that have such a far-reaching audience.

I read today that the Kaylee is moving her arms and hands more and more, which is obviously a good sign. Hopefully this is just the start and she'll completely recover, but that question still can't be answered just yet.

Thanks again.

Ed. Note: Kaylee Greer is an eight-year-old Jr. Dragster driver who was injured in an accident at Ohio Valley Raceway in Louisville, KY, on March. 31.

AHRA RACERS ARE HIS HEROES

Scott Shafiroff’s story in your sister magazine was fantastic. He was my hero in ‘71-‘74, I ran Stock eliminator during those AHRA days, as he dominated GT-2 AND GT-3 classes. Scott was a true touring sportsman racer, and was so proud of how well he did in those days.

As far as the sportsman racer being well heeled in today’s racing...it was always that way. Another of my heroes ran 12 cars in the same paint scheme in ‘77. Guess who?? Bill Heilscher, another true AHRA pioneer.

SIMPLER WAS BETTER

Jok, I agree with almost everything in your article. I would only suggest that most of the fuel-injected cars are way out of line with regards to h.p. rating. Take note of these cars. At No Problem Sports Nationals, many of these cars only ran to the 1,000-foot light and shut it down. This was done to not go too far under their bogus index. They should have more h.p. added a long time ago. The next thing NHRA should do is lower everybody's index 1/2 second, give or take a tenth or so. This would help make it a safer race and not too many racers would lock up the brakes on the big end and crash.

The buttons and the delay boxes should go. It is ruining racing as we know it. 30 years ago racing was so much fun. You had a tenth of a second cushion and the last round was no break-out! That was fun!!!! 32-car fields were good as well. Just me thoughts.
