TWEAKING THE SPORTSMAN SCHEDULE

Will Hanna's proposed sportsman schedule is a good one, but I'd like to propose an idea put forth several years ago when I was at (then) IRP.   I don't think NHRA will ever go for it, and I know Dallas Jones at Bowling Green wouldn't go for it, but I still think it makes sense.

Switch the Bowling Green and Indianapolis LODRS races.

Having the Indy race the weekend before the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals might sound a little off kilter, and it might cut into ORP's property preparation time a bit, but consider the following...

It would attract an extremely large field of sportsman cars, as the Indy meet does now. Also, this means that a majority of the sportsman competitors for the USN will already be on the property, parked, and inspected before the gates open for them to be parked on Sunday evening or Monday morning.

Just a thought. Again.

ANOTHER TWEAK NECESSARY

One small problem with Vegas on March 2nd would be the fact that their NASCAR event is that weekend.  With around 900 Cars at the Vegas Divisional when it was a week before their Fall National event it would hard to convince the powers to be there that it is a bad idea.  When Phoenix had the last Divisional before Pomona they never ever came close to that kind of car count.  Plus Vegas has the ability to handle that many entries.

As track operators we all have many masters to serve and scheduling, especially when you are a multi-use facility like Fontana, Vegas, Bristol, Sonoma and soon maybe Charlotte it is a lot harder than someone not involved in it could ever imagine.  Yes, at some point it is also about money, but then what isn't these days.

LOOK TO NOSTALGIA CARS

I think the nostalgia funny cars have the rules about right. Plus the cars look like a reasonable interpretation of their factory counterparts.
Going 300 mph with a car that is in essence a blob of carbon fiber, with a bucket on the back for a spoiler isn't what funny car racing should be.
