The Top Gas Honda in the foreground is the drag bike built by R.C. Engineering, tuned by Byron Hines and driven by Terry Vance. They won 22 of 23 races in 1974. The red F/B behind it was built and ridden by Ray Price and Don Garlits’ famous “Swamp Rat 13” is in the background.

The art work is on display at the Harley-Davidson museum through September 5, and as part of the museum's exhibit, Drag Racing: America's Fast Time, it's in the best of company. Aside from the drag bikes and drag racing memorabilia on display, the Stone Woods and Cook drag car, as well as Don Garlits’ “Swamp Rat 13” and so much more, await patrons.

If time permits this summer, if you're into hot bikes and hot rods, this exhibition is for you. This exhibit is located in “The Garage” at 400 West Canal St., Milwaukee, WI, 53201. Anyone interested in acquiring a copy of the artwork “Granddaddy,” please contact David Uhl Studios in Golden, Colorado.

Motorcycle drag racing action in July will heat up at the end of the month with the MANCUP HTP Nationals, in Memphis, Tenn. This will be race number three of their five-race season. Memphis International Raceway will commence racing action on the weekend of July 23-24 with the action beginning at 9 a.m. on both days The track has regularly scheduled Thursday night racing which is totally separate of the MANCUP event for racers interested in early testing. There will be a Friday test and tune from 2 to 8 p.m., for MANCUP racers who wish to buy into that.

The MANCUP HTP Nationals is a two-day event on Saturday and Sunday, July 23-24. In 2015, the first year of racing at Memphis for the MANCUP sanction, Larry McBride won the race in Top Fuel and oddly enough, one year later, Larry will be looking for his first win of the 2016 season. It was a scorcher last year at the Memphis race facility and that trend will not abate with mid-summer racing scheduled in Memphis.

The following weekend, on July, 29-31, the IDBL will host the annual WPGC Bike Fest, at the MIR race facility in Maryland. This race will be event number four of their six-race season. The race will be dedicated to the late Elmer Trett, as it was 20 years ago, in 1996, that the racing world lost Elmer in a racing incident. All racers in the T/F bike classes are invited to attend this event with the IDBL seeking to host an “Import Vs Harley” shootout for the Top Fuel bikes, in memory of Mr. Trett.

DRO will render a full salute to Elmer Trett on the anniversary of Elmer’s passing on September 1, 1996. Gone but never forgotten, he was the greatest motorcycle drag racer ever to throw a leg over a drag bike.
