Marc Dantoni laid down some impressive runs in the nearly 100-degree
heat to dominate the field in his new 707 c.i. Musi-powered carbon fiber
bodied '57 Chevy.
After qualifying number one at 6.802/206.51, Dantoni waded through
a tough nine car field. Steve Grebeck qualfied in the number 2 spot
but broke a lifter in his turbocharged small block Mustang and couldn't
extract it from the bore, which ended his weekend.
Rob Emmans and crew got a bit of help from blower guru Camp Stanley
and pulled off a string of consistent 6.80's and 6.90's to make it to
the final round. After fighting minor parts breakage all weekend, Emman's
crew had to watch as the Camaro broke on the line, giving the win to
Dantoni.
