Ed. Note:  Wady Hamam or Pro Mod Wad as he is known in the business is NOS's main nitrous Guru. He has been involved in nitrous oxide injection almost from its inception especially with the Pro Mod division.. He is originally from the Buffalo, New York area and has been involved in all types of racing from flat track motorcycles to fuel dragsters. In his wasted youth he even raced a fuel funny car powered by a blown and injected small block Ford! He and his brother campaigned a front motored Top Fuel dragster and lost a race against Don Garlits at the now closed Niagara Falls Dragway. His advice about nitrous problems is highly sought after but he is hard to get to. He has agreed to answer one question every couple of weeks for Drag Racing Online readers. Pro Mod Wad:

I ran 8.57 with a Big Shot plate 120 nos/116 fuel. I put on a Pro Shot Fogger to try to go faster and I'm having a lot of problems. I can't even get my 8.50 back. I have a 415 small block Chevy, 18-degree heads, 1000 cfm Holley, 700 lift nos cam, 116 lobe sep. What would be a good tune-up to get my 350+ Big Shot numbers back using this Fogger?

Thanks.

Kent,

You did not give me any info on the type of problems you are having with fogger system but I would bet the engine is running rich. In order to get the same type of power as the plate you would need to run a 36 jet in the Nitrous and a 34 jet in the fuel. You should run fuel pressure at 5.75 to 6 lbs.

One thing about plate versus nozzles is the initial hit as the plate leaves more violently than the nozzle. Due to the cooling effect in the manifold below the plate you feel much more of a kick when the system activates. The foggers will be softer on the leave but will march till you lift the throttle. If you are too rich with the nozzle system the car is probably laying down on the back half of the track which is why you cannot get back to your plate performance. You will need to read the spark plugs very carefully so that you can retard your timing correctly and get a final baseline tune-up, but I would say you should be retarding at least 12 degrees with this power level.

Try these suggestions and I think you will get good results.
